About Sandy Graves' Crow's Nest Photography
My name is Sandy Graves and I am a traveling photographer who specializes
in
waterfront panoramic photography. My wife Nancy and I travel and
live aboard our sailboat "Lily Pad" which serves as both our home and office.

During a 2005 vacation to Bahia Honda in the Florida Keys, I had to climb to
the masthead of my little cruising catamaran "Lion's Paw" to make some
repairs. I was blown away by the view and on the second trip up, I took my
camera with me. Thus was born the idea for "Crow's Nest Photography".
Over time it has evolved into specializing in panoramas, including landscape
vistas, boats, businesses and residences. Being able to live aboard our boat
and travel full time after retiring from the Fire Department in 2009 has
opened up the opportunity to develop this business to it's fullest potential.

Most of my photography is shot from the masthead which gives the pictures a
unique perspective. Bringing the angle of the picture up off the horizon gives
it depth and dimension not found in any standard waterfront photography.
Aerial photography lacks the intimacy of a close up shot and can come across
looking two dimensional and
sometimes like a crime scene photo. The angle
of my photographs is often difficult to achieve and good panoramas
require
skill and
are labor intensive to produce. If you are familiar with the subject in
the picture, you will
likely appreciate the difficulty of the shot.

Using Lily Pad, with Nancy at the helm, I can explore the angles for the best
rendition of the scene and living aboard allows me to wait until conditions
(light and weather) are right for what is often a stunningly beautiful shot.

I am currently focusing on
commercial photography; restaurants, marinas,
municipal facilities, work boats, etc. But I am always expanding my galleries
of residential and pleasure craft photography and "Fine Art" photography.

We are currently travelling along the east coast of the United States and its
tributaries with plans to travel to the Great Lakes, the Bahamas, the
Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Hopefully we will travel for the next
decade, shooting photography in these areas.

I am currently shooting in the Sanford, Florida area.

Because we travel continually, marketing is direct and all sales are done
online. We offers prints, digital files and photo paintings through a photo
management company.
